"The Alexander technique is nothing in and of itself - it is only something when applied to movement"
F.M. Alexander

Have you ever noticed that maybe one shoulder is higher than the other?  Or that one side of your neck is tighter. Or maybe it's your hips that feel uneven.  Have you ever wondered why that is?   Or do you sometimes find yourself slouching and then sit up straight only to find a few moments later that you are slouching again!  There is a way to make postural changes that is easier and natural.  It is our birthright to have beautiful upright posture.  Just look at any child around the age of 2 or 3.  Their head is beautifully poised on their spine and they are physically balanced and alive.  Wouldn't you like to have that at 40? 60? 80?   There's no reason not to have that same poise everyday of your life, starting right now.  And with a little help it can be yours.

The Alexander Technique is an educational system intended to give a greater functional awareness of the self in movement. The method uses everyday movement such as sitting and standing or walking as the primary vehicle for learning to change postural habits.  But the principles of the technique can be applied to any movement.  I work with athletes, musicians, mothers, yoga students, writers, therapists, and business men/woman.  The Alexander Technique can help you do whatever you do with less tension and greater poise.

The Technique is also helpful for those recovering from injuries or who have developed a way of moving to compensate for an injury.  Often this compensation can cause other problems and if not addressed can lead to life long movement patterns that can cause pain and structural harm.

I've also done extensive work with children and teenagers who often develop poor postural habits - sometimes due to their chair/desk situations and sometimes in an effort to adopt a "cool" posture or attitude, or to rebel against their parents asking them to stand up straight.  Through the Alexander Technique I can teach them to become more aware of their body usage and make positive changes without getting stiff.

The Alexander Technique is for anyone who wants to gain an understanding of how to put a little more life in their step while maintaining a sense of ease.
